I have been asked many times what I want to see happen at West Ham as the pressure on Moyes becomes more and more intense.
That’s a simple one to answer. Slaven Bilic as an immediate caretaker boss and Paulo Fonesca next season. Right now we need a guy in charge who understands what West Ham is about and that man has to be former Hammers boss Slaven Bilic who could be tempted back into the club with perhaps even a non obligatory option for next season although the Portuguese boss would be my option.
The major complaint against David Moyes is the lack of entertainment we are seeing from a tired, old and leggy looking team and the dreadful current results. We have the appearance of being a one man outfit in Lucas Paqueta‘s absence. Whoever comes in will have one hell of a job on their hands because the squad looks full of bang average players – the exceptions being Areola, Coufal on occasions, Emerson, Alvarez, Kudus and Bowen.
Kalvin Phillips was a poor loan signing in a deal agreed by City either to get him match fit – unlikely given his lack of games up there – or in the hope that he would show enough to tempt us or someone else to buy him. Currently he is letting them down on both fronts.
James Ward Prowse was clearly bought for his set piece abilities which have current dried up and he hasn’t looked great anywhere else whilst Mavropanos, Zouma and Aguerd are forming a dodgy back line which has managed to concede 12 goals in the last four Premier League games. How an injury ravaged Zouma became captain is extraordinary given that he can only train twice a week and play in only one game.
So whether it is Slaven now and Paulo next season, the club will need a total rebuild despite the millions spent on it over the Moyes years. The situation is deeply depressing because whether you want results or entertainment – preferably both – we are getting neither right now and the board need to act quickly if the boiling fan discontent isn’t to explode.
I understand the problem they face appointing a top manager right now as there are no proven PL bosses available but Slav will suit me for the time being – the man’s priority is always to entertain.
Sadly, however, he will have a heck of a job on his hands – as anyone else would – with the players he would have available to him in the current Moyes squad.
