WWE world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins showed up Wednesday on media row and pronounced himself a Justin Fields man, while also revealing who he wouldn’t mind getting into the ring with from the NFL.
Rollins, the man known as “The Visionary,” is a long-time Bears fan when he’s not taking shots at The Rock and was in Vegas promoting the Wrestlemania Kickoff event in Vegas for Super Bowl week.
“I think you keep Justin Fields,” Rollins told Sports Illustrated’s Brice Butler, the former Raiders and Cowboys receiver. “I feel like the locker room loves Justin Fields. He’s a player. He’s a baller. You give him, you put a little bit more around him, he’s gonna be a stud next year, dude. He’s going to be a stud.
“The team’s going to be continuing to move up. We had great season after a terrible season the year before. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in Chicago next year and I’m hoping we keep Justin.”
It’s an opinon expressed by many NFL players and former players over the last week, namely former Bears defensive tackle Mike Pennel, Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, former Bears kicker Robbie Gould and former NFL receiver Keyshawn Johnson.
Rollins, a native of Davenport, Iowa in the Quad Cities, is firmly behind everything GM Ryan Poles has done but it sounds like if they draft Caleb Williams be might look to put someone in a headlock.
“I ain’t trying to take Ryan Poles’ job,” Rollins told Butler. “He did a great job, man, turning that pick from last year into what he got for that, turning it into another No. 1 pick this year. The team’s done great since he’s been there. I’m excited.
“Like I said, it’s a process, man. These teams don’t just change overnight. It takes time man; it takes time, and to build a culture and to build a young team that as going to last for a while. We’ve got a young team, we’ve got a lot of draft capital, a lot of salary cap space. It’s going to be a good offseason and hopefully 2024 is going to be the year of the Chicago Bears.”
So who would the WWE champion want to get into the ring with from the NFL?
Of course it has to do with the Bears.
“It’s gotta be Aaron Rodgers man,” he said. “I’m a Bears fan. I’ve had to deal with that for years and years and years, just suffering. And him just owning my team, just owning it. And then by the end of it he was just making light of it because it was so easy for him.
“And I didn’t like that. I didn’t apprecicate that, all right? And now he’s made a fool of himself the past few years. So I’d love to just put a boot in the back of his head. That would be great. He’s got to be my guy (to take on). Sorry A-Rod.”
