66% of Chicago Bears fans are confident in Matt Eberflus
Earlier this week, we asked our readers to answer this question: How confident are you in Matt Eberflus heading into his third season?
As the 2023 season wore on, my desire to see ‘Flus flushed grew. Even though he had the defense playing inspired football in the second half of the season, the three historic late-game collapses were too much. He just didn’t seem like the guy to lead this team into the future.
When the season ended, it became apparent that they intended to draft Caleb Williams first overall, so I wanted a total house cleaning. I wanted Eberflus fired, and an entirely new coaching staff brought in to work with the best quarterback prospect the franchise has ever landed.
But Eberflus stayed and hired a new defensive coordinator to help him lead the defense. He wiped out nearly all of his offensive coaches, and I was impressed with the staff they assembled to support Caleb Williams.
I still have my doubts about Eberflus, but I like the way the offseason has gone thus far.
Perhaps a more talented roster and an offensive playcaller he trusts will cede his conservative nature.
