See which NFL coaches have been fired on ‘Black Monday’

It’s Black Monday in the NFL.

While typically a tough day for players and front office members, the first day after the conclusion of the NFL’s regular season is especially hard on coaches and their families since it is commonly when teams make changes to coaching staffs.

So far, several NFL coaches, and a few general managers have been fired. Here is a closer look at those changes.

Arthur Smith fired by Atlanta Falcons

Smith, who became Atlanta’s head coach on Jan. 15, 2021, led the team for three seasons but finished 7-10 every year.

He completes his tenure in Atlanta with an overall record of 21-30.

“Decisions like this are never easy and they never feel good,” said Falcons Owner and Chairman Arthur M. Blank. “We have profound respect for Coach Smith and appreciate all the hard work and dedication he has put into the Falcons over the last three years. He has been part of building a good culture in our football team, but the results on the field have not met our expectations. After significant thought and reflection, we have determined the best way forward for our team is new leadership in the head coaching position.”

Ron Rivera fired by Washington Commanders

Rivera, who first joined the franchise after the 2019 season, was 26-40-1 leading the Commanders. He went 4-13 this season.
