Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after two people were killed when they were hit by a car in Coventry. A 33-year-old man was detained in Beckbury Road, Walsgrave, following a series of collisions in the city around 8am on Monday (September 3). He has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

A 44-year-old pedestrian on Gosford Street and a 47-year-old cyclist in Woodway Lane sadly died of their injuries. “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those who have tragically lost their lives, and we’ll be doing all we can to support them during this deeply distressing time,” a West Midlands Police spokesperson said.

“Another pedestrian who was struck on Gosford Street has been treated for injuries which are not life threatening. We’re not looking for anyone else in connection with what happened, and from the information we have this is not being treated as terror-related. “Our enquiries are continuing and anyone who can assist is asked to contact us via Live Chat on our website, or by calling 101, and quote log 854 of 3/9/23. We’ve created an online portal where people can upload any CCTV, video footage or to provide information that could help our investigations.”
