SAD NEWS: Seven-point total deduction after appeal development……

Everton to land seven-point total deduction after appeal development – Sources

Everton are likely to be deducted a total of seven points this season for their multiple financial breaches, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Toffees’ total points deficit will be seven – a major deduction from the 12 they were initially hit with.

In November, Sean Dyche’s side faced a 10-point deduction for breaching the allowed spending threshold of £105million by £19.5million in the three-year period up to the 2021-22 season.

After they lodged an appeal, this was reduced to six in February, but they were hit with another two-point deduction six weeks later.

This related to a £16.6million overspend in the three-year period leading up to last season, but the club have launched another appeal.

The outcome of this hearing is expected to be announced before the end of the current campaign.

It is believed that Everton are hopeful that they can have their latest sanction halved to just one point, with well-placed sources telling Football Insider that this would be deemed a “success” by the club and is a likely outcome.

However, the Merseysiders could land a third punishment at the start of the new season, with Football Insider revealing (14 April) that an unresolved matter regarding their stadium costs could see them land a fine or a points deduction.

They are next set to play out a crucial clash in the relegation fight against 17th-place Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon (21 April).
