A man found dead in Coventry and a woman who died of her injuries in hospital have been named by police.

Police were sent to Caludon Road in the city shortly after 05:30 BST on Friday.

Marian Gheorghe, 52, was confirmed dead at the scene and 49-year-old Vicala Gheorghe was taken to hospital with serious injuries where she later died.

The pair were former partners and detectives said although their investigations continue, they believe Mr Gheorghe injured the mother-of-six and then himself.

Post-mortem examinations are due to take place next week to establish the causes of death, West Midlands Police said.

“We’re offering support to family members during this distressing time,” a force spokesperson added.
