Driver killed by tree that fell on vehicle during storm, police say

ARMONK, N.Y. (Gray News) – Police in New York said a driver was killed when a tree fell on a vehicle on Wednesday afternoon as severe weather moved through the area.

According to the North Castle Police Department, the deadly incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. on New York State Route 128 between School Street and Leisure Farm Drive in Armonk.

The tree fell on a 2021 Toyota and killed the driver, who was the only person in the vehicle at the time, North Castle Police Chief Peter Simonsen said.

Law enforcement did not officially name the victim, but News 12 Westchester identified her as Cathy Tusiani, the wife of a New York Yankees executive.

The team released a statement on Thursday about Tusiani, which said she “was beloved by our front office staffers, who were privileged to experience and bear witness to her kindness, intelligence, sense of humor, and great love for her husband, Michael, over the two-plus decades of dedicated service he has provided the Yankees organization and the Steinbrenner family.”

The incident is being investigated by the North Castle and Westchester County police departments.
