Everton points deduction: Keith Wyness drops new appeal verdict
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness doesn’t believe the result of the Toffees’ points deduction hearing is going to make any difference to their season.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the outcome is going to be “irrelevant” for the Blues after they have already securing their Premier League status.
It’s been reported the hearing over Everton’s two-point deduction will take place during the final week of the campaign.
The Toffees have been docked eight points in total this year after being found guilty of two separate profit and sustainability breaches by the governing body.
Sean Dyche’s side are now mathematically safe after putting an unbeaten four-game run together over the past few weeks, meaning the result of the hearing won’t have any say in which division they will be playing in next season.
Everton points deduction appeal likely to have little impact
Wyness believes it’s going to be a fierce battle between Burnley, Luton Town and Nottingham Forest to remain in the top flight after the latter saw their points deduction appeal turned down on 7 May.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I don’t think it will make any difference.
“We are mathematically safe, so all we get is some points back potentially. “I think that will be a bit of an irrelevant point going forward.
“It’s going to be different for other clubs, with Luton, Burnley and Forest it’s going to be quite a battle.
“We’ll see how that goes.”
