SAD NEWS FOR EVERTON: £220k-a-week Everton pair now ‘Almost Certain’ to leave Due to….

Everton update on futures of Andre Gomes and Dele Alli as Goodison contracts near expiry

Andre Gomes and Dele Alli are “almost certain” to be leaving Everton at the expiry of their contacts this summer, according to Matt Jones.

Dele Alli and Andre Gomes future updates at Everton emerge

The Liverpool Echo journalist told the paper’s website on 8 May that the two midfielders are expected to depart from Sean Dyche’s squad rather than receive extensions at Goodison Park.

Ex-Barcelona man Gomes, 30, is said to be earning £120,000-a-week at Everton [Liverpool Echo] and has made 13 first-team appearances this term, having spent last season on loan at Lille.

Former Tottenham star Dele, is believed to earn around £100,000-a-week [Mirror] but has only played that many times in total for the club and hasn’t featured at all this season amid set backs after surgery.

Sean Dyche set for Everton midfield exits

Once upon a time Gomes and Alli would have constituted a duo capable of transforming the Everton midfield, and on their day can still have an impact, fitness permitting.

But their day has become few and far between at Goodison Park in recent years and with the club ever-pressed to watch their spending it seems inevitable that two of the more expensive members of the first team squad will depart. In theory, if both sides were willing there might be the chance for much more affordable deals to be worked out, but equally it may be better in both cases for the midfielders to get new starts either way.

With action already under way to sign Wilfred Ndidi on a free transfer it appears that what steps are possible, when the ownership of the club remains so uncertain heading into the transfer window, are being taken to restock an area that also sees regular contributor Idrissa Gueye out of contract and big-money star Amadou Onana a transfer target.

Join the Goodison News WhatsApp channel to getEven Gomes’ 13 appearances this time under Dyche are a surprisingly significant workload in an Everton shirt, with his career on Merseyside never fully recovering from the serious injury he suffered against Spurs back in 2019, with Dele the scorer for his former side that day.

The latter’s interview with Gary Neville last summer [The Overlap, 13 July] gave an insight into the off-field trials that the ex-England star has had to overcome as well as the injury problems, although he expressed his appreciation for Dyche’s management of his situation, but during his punditry appearance on Sky Sports (16 April) as the Toffees were thrashed 6-0 at Chelsea last month he sounded like a man who didn’t expect to be with the club much longer.
