Patterson to miss Euro 2024
Nathan Patterson has been ruled out of Scotland’s squad for this summer’s European Championships as he won’t recover from surgery on his hamstring in time.
The Everton player was hopeful of beating the odds and being fit in time to feature in the tournament in Germany but his international boss, Steve Clarke, told the media today that neither of his first-choice right-backs will be make it.
Patterson tore his hamstring late in the 6-0 defeat at Chelsea last month on a rare appearance off the bench and needed to undergo an operation. As a result, he joins Brentford’s Aaron Hickey in missing the Euros through injury.
His Goodison team-mate Vitalii Mykolenko remains hopeful that he can overcome an ankle ligament injury in time to be ready to represent Ukraine.
He missed the final five games of the Premier League season after rolling the ankle during the Toffees’ Merseyside derby victory over Liverpool buy avoided the need for surgery.
