Everton ready to pounce as Bobby Decordova-Reid set to leave Fulham as free agent
Everton are targeting a move for Fulham’s Bobby Decordova-Reid this summer, according to TEAMtalk.
The online source reported [5 June] that the 31-year-old is set to become a free agent after contract talks with the Cottagers stalled, leaving the Toffees with an opportunity for a free signing.
It is understood that Everton are joined by Leeds United in the quest to secure Decordova-Reid’s signature this summer, both experiencing their respective financial difficulties.
Everton to target Bobby Decordova-Reid free transfer
Considering the Toffees’ current financial issues, having been punished twice for PSR breaches during the 2023/24 campaign, a free transfer makes total sense.
Also, with 20 Premier League goals in his career, the winger’s goal contributions would be a welcomed addition to Sean Dyche’s current squad, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure the only real goalscorers last season.
The former took a very long time to get going, notching just three goals until a goalscoring spree saw him finish the season with seven Premier League goals, helping Everton secure safety in the division.
Wingers are also a part of Dyche’s squad that will need addressing this summer, with Arnaut Danjuma set to return to Villarreal and Jack Harrison’s future at Goodison Park up in the air. While some fans may be underwhelmed by the signing of Decordova-Reid, it is a transfer that certainly makes sense given the circumstances at the club and uncertainty over the takeover. He has been a constant performer for Fulham over the years, making almost 200 appearances since making his loan from Cardiff City permanent in January 2020.
Until Farhad Moshiri is able to sell the club, making the situation much clearer on Merseyside, it will be extremely difficult for Everton to act in the summer transfer market, with multiple losses expected too.
The likes of Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana could be on their way out this summer, which will mean Dyche needs multiple replacements. With minimal funds, that task will be extremely daunting for the manager.
