‘I would expect…’ – Carragher shares how many points Everton could get back in appeal verdict

Jamie Carragher expects Everton to receive some of the 10 points back that they were deducted for breaching the Premier League’s spending rules.

Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event on Monday (19 February, 10:11pm), the pundit said it may just be two or three points that the Toffees get back as they wait to hear what the result will be to their appeal to the ruling handed out in November.

But after revealing that Nottingham Forest are expecting to receive a points deduction for breaching the profit and sustainability rules, he added that it would also be a “big worry” for the Blues in case they lose some more points after they were also found guilty of committing another breach.

“I would expect some points to come back because I think the initial reaction from everybody in football when they saw the 10-point deduction was ‘woah, that feels harsh’,” said Carragher. “Yes, Everton admitted the breach so there’s going to be some sort of sanction.

“What should it be because it’s never happened before? There’s that grey area there. But I think that basically killed the January transfer window because I think that scared a lot of clubs and they were thinking ‘we can’t afford to get close to the line with FFP, PSR or whatever you want to call it.

“The big thing for me is, I think Everton will get something back. I think it could be two or three points maximum, I don’t know.“But there’s a feeling within football over the last couple of days from people that we’ve spoken to, Nottingham Forest fear they’re getting points taken off them for the situation they find themselves in.“So Everton are in the same boat as them, whether it’s exactly the same I don’t know, so that would also be a big worry if you got points back and then you get them taken off again. It’s not a good time to be an Evertonian right now.”

Everton appeal ruling could prove crucial in relegation battle

Everton points deduction: appeal verdict rumours swirl but Blues can save themselves - Liverpool Echo

The ruling over Everton’s appeal to their 10-point deduction could prove to be the difference in deciding which division they are in next season.

It appears as though the battle against relegation is going to go right down until the wire as the Toffees moved above Luton Town on goal difference following their 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Monday.

While they would probably be hoping to receive more than two or three points back, perhaps they would take that at the moment as those points could be vital at the end of the season.

With Forest seemingly preparing themselves for a points deduction, there will be real concerns at Goodison Park that they could suffer a similar fate.

But the Blues will be desperately hoping that doesn’t prove to be the case as it would be very difficult to fight off relegation if they were to receive another deduction during this campaign.
