Everton must pull out all the stops to sign Jacob Bruun Larsen after relegation message

Everton could find themselves in pole position to sign Hoffenheim winger Jacob Bruun Larsen, after the Denmark international posted a message about his loan spell at Burnley this season.

The Toffees face a potential crisis out wide this summer with players out of contract and loanees returning to their parent clubs, and Bruun Larsen’s message in an Instagram post suggests that he could be privy to making a Premier League return.

Despite two points deductions, Everton stayed up at Burnley’s expense, finishing 14 points clear of the bottom three and helping to relegate the Clarets with a late-season 1-0 win at Goodison Park.

Bruun Larsen said that he had “fallen in love” with Burnley and was proud to finish as their top scorer with six goals, but after Everton and West Ham both previously experienced interest in the Dane, the Blues could beat the Clarets to his permanent signature.

Everton, under the management of Sean Dyche, signing a player who has been at Burnley and has been one of the best performers in a relegated side almost makes too much sense, and already has a case study – Dwight McNeil.

McNeil is one of several players who excelled during the Toffees’ march away from the relegation zone in recent weeks, but at present could be the only out-and-out winger on the books at Goodison Park come the start of next season.

Ashley Young’s contract is coming to an end, and while the club are keen to bring Jack Harrison back into the fold, their ability to re-loan the Leeds wideman relies on his parent club remaining in the Championship.

As a result, following up on their initial interest and signing Bruun Larsen permanently from Hoffenheim would alleviate some of the pressure on McNeil, particularly given he scored twice as many goals as Harrison this season, playing in the same position for a lesser side.

Bringing Bruun Larsen to Goodison Park would represent sensible business for Everton, and with big-money sales expected for players in key positions, the Blues could bolster an area of the pitch they are already depleted in for a knock-down price.
