One free agent for Buffalo to sign from Florida

The Florida Panthers are only four wins away from winning the Stanley Cup. While their opponent is to be determined, they have some very attractive names the Buffalo Sabres could sign. For the player I would love to see in a Sabres uniform, it’s defenseman Brandon Montour.

Sabres fans are no stranger to Brandon as he was with the club from 2019-2021. In that span, Montour scored 13 goals and had 29 assists. After getting traded to the Panthers, Brandon has been putting up excellent numbers.

This season, he registered 8 goals and recorded 25 assists in 66 games played. Montour did miss part of the season with an injury, but he is a vital part of why Florida is in the Stanley Cup Finals for the second consecutive season. During the playoffs, he has 3 goals and 6 assists.

Why is he the one I want Buffalo to target? First off, the Sabres need to improve the blue line and Montour would be the perfect addition. I know things didn’t work out well in his first go around with the blue and gold, but with the current core, he would be a great fit.

He is only 30 years old, and he isn’t afraid to play with a mean streak. During the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 seasons, Montour scored double digit goals in both campaigns. The defenseman is also a right-handed shot, which Buffalo needs.

As cool as it would be for the Sabres to get Sam Reinhart, I don’t see it happening. Regarding Brandon, I’m not sure if it’s possible. But the reason why I picked him is because he plays a position Buffalo needs to improve in.

He had a respectable cap hit of $3,500,000 this year, and Buffalo could afford him. The next team we will take a look at is the Los Angeles Kings.
