Analyst Says He Would ‘Not Be Surprised’ If 1 NFL Coach Is Fired

Despite the No. 2 scoring offense in the NFL, Miami managed just seven points in the wild card loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Changes are likely in store for the Dolphins are another disappointing playoff exit under head coach Mike McDaniel, and NFL analyst Jeremy Marks-Peltz went so far as to say that Miami could consider a coaching change this offseason because of the age of owner Stephen Ross and the abundance of quality veteran coaches on the market.
“I would not be surprised if Mike McDaniel gets fired. The Dolphins have an 83-year old star chasing owner with money, and Belichick, Pete Carroll, possibly Mike Tomlin all available with Super Bowl pedigrees,” Marks-Peltz said.
This is a bit of a stretch, though, considering what McDaniel has been able to do with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and the offense in just two years at the helm.
The team around Tagovailoa has been solid all year but dealt with injuries to end the season that derailed the Dolphins’ momentum.
Miami lost key offensive players like wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and running back Raheem Mostert during the final two-game stretch that ended with the Dolphins falling to the No. 6 seed, as well as defensive starters like edge rushers Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, and Xavien Howard over the second half of the season.
This is the second consecutive wild card exit for the Dolphins, even with a healthy Tagovailoa and a better overall roster, so adjustments will undoubtedly be made this offseason to fix any flaws on the team.
The head coach likely isn’t one of those flaws, but McDaniel’s seat will only get hotter if the team fails to improve year-over-year.
