Steelers LB Suffers Pec Injury

Pittsburgh — After Elandon Roberts departed the game in the second quarter due to a pectoral injury, the Pittsburgh Steelers defense suffered another setback at inside linebacker. Following a Cincinnati Bengals first down throw, Roberts departed. He stood up slowly, encountered trainers on the field, and then moved gingerly over to the sideline. After that, he was brought to the medical tent for more assessment. Then he entered the tunnel and made his way to the changing area. It was decided that he was unlikely to come back. Cole Holcomb (knee) and Kwon Alexander (achilles) are two of the Steelers’ inside linebackers who are already on injured reserve. In Week 16, Roberts and Mark Robinson were the starting lineups.

The Steelers will use Robinson, Mykal Walker, and Myles Jack at inside linebacker in Roberts’ absence. Jack was promoted from the practice squad ahead of the game and is making his debut for the season against Cincinnati. The Steelers will keep you updated on Roberts’ injury as soon as new details become available. The Steelers declared their game safe. The following players won’t play against the Bengals: defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal, inside linebacker Blake Martinez, cornerback Darius Rush, offensive tackle Dylan Cook, quarterback Kenny Pickett (ankle), and guards Minkah Fitzpatrick and Trenton Thompson.

Due to injuries to Fitzpatrick’s knee and Damontae Kazee’s season-long suspension, the Steelers are missing both of their starting safeties in Week 16. Pittsburgh will use cornerback Patrick Peterson, who will be accompanied by Miles Killebrew, Elijah Riley, and Eric Rowe, to push back now that Thompson is also sidelined.

Pittsburgh will turn to Mason Rudolph at quarterback this week with Pickett missing his third game. Mitch Trubisky is his backup. The team did not elevate Trace McSorley from the practice squad, meaning they will only have two QBs available.
