Miley Cyrus sued for plagiarising ‘Flowers’ from Bruno Mars

Miley Cyrus released ‘Flowers’ in August 2023 and won two Grammy Awards. The song, about heartbreak and self-improvement, was an international hit and catapulted the singer even further. But it’s not all good news for the artist.

The company Tempo Music Investments has sued the Tennessee singer for allegedly plagiarising Bruno Mars and his ‘When I was your man’.

Specifically, the plaintiffs claim that the Miley Cyrus song ‘intentionally’ assimilates the chorus, melody and chord progression, among other technical details. In any case, Bruno Mars’ man does not appear in the complaint, so, according to TMZ

The similarities between the two songs are nothing new. In fact, at the time of the release of ‘Flowers’ it seemed clear that Miley Cyrus had been inspired by ‘When I was your man’ to give a twist to the interpretation of the lyrics. Bruno Mars, in his creation, claims that he should have treated his partner better, while Cyrus stresses that she should have taken better care of herself.
