Seeking more opportunities, he transferred to New Mexico State in early 2024 but moved again to Ball State to be closer to family. At Ball State, Norwood became a key contributor, recording 38 tackles, two tackles for loss, 10 pass breakups, and a fumble recovery during the 2024 season. Pro Football Focus awarded him a solid coverage grade of 71.8 over 456 snaps, primarily at outside cornerback.
Decision to Join South Carolina
Norwood’s decision to join South Carolina was influenced by the program’s culture and coaching staff. He expressed enthusiasm about competing in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), where he will face some of the nation’s top receivers. Working under defensive backs coach Torrian Gray, known for developing NFL talent, was a significant factor in his commitment.
Impact on South Carolina’s Defense
Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 183 pounds, Norwood brings versatility and experience to the Gamecocks’ secondary. His addition addresses a critical need for South Carolina, providing depth and skill to the defensive backfield. Norwood’s ability to play both outside corner and nickel positions offers strategic flexibility for the defensive scheme.
With one year of eligibility remaining, Norwood aims to make an immediate impact at South Carolina. His journey through multiple programs has equipped him with resilience and adaptability, qualities that will serve him well in the competitive environment of the SEC. As the Gamecocks prepare for the upcoming season, Norwood’s commitment signifies a strategic enhancement to their defensive lineup.
