A teenage boy has been charged following a series of knifepoint robberies in Coventry. Police acted on information following a number of armed incidents in the city and arrested the suspect on Tuesday (June 25).
Staff at the Subway in Quinton Parade, Cheylesmore, were twice threatened with a knife as cash was stolen on Wednesday, June 5 and Thursday, June 20. A taxi driver was also confronted with a weapon and had his mobile phone taken on Clay Lane in Stoke on Tuesday, June 11.
A 15-year-old, who cannot be named due to his age, has now been charged with three counts of robbery, three counts of possessing an offensive weapon and racially abusing a police officer, West Midlands Police said. He appeared before Coventry Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday, June 27).
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We have charged a teenager over a series of knifepoint robberies in Coventry. We acted on information following a number of armed incidents and arrested the 15-year-old boy on Tuesday (June 25).
“Tackling robbery is a priority for us and we are already running Operation Ruby to catch anyone involved.”
