Nelsonville Offices Closed Monday, January 6, 2025, Due to Severe Weather and Level 3 Snow Emergency

Nelsonville, OH – In response to extreme winter weather conditions, all city offices in Nelsonville will remain closed on Monday, January 6, 2025. The decision comes as the region faces a Level 3 Snow Emergency, declared by local authorities earlier this morning. The announcement was made by Mayor Carolyn Stevens to ensure public safety and minimize travel during hazardous conditions.

The Level 3 Snow Emergency indicates that roadways are closed to all non-emergency traffic due to heavy snow, high winds, and reduced visibility. Law enforcement officials have advised residents to stay off the roads unless it is an absolute emergency. Those who venture out risk being cited or fined.

“Our priority is the safety of our residents and employees,” said Mayor Stevens in a statement. “We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but we urge everyone to remain at home and allow emergency personnel to manage the situation effectively.”

The severe weather has brought more than 12 inches of snow to the region in the past 24 hours, with additional accumulation and sub-zero temperatures expected throughout the day. The National Weather Service has issued warnings for continued snowfall, icy conditions, and potential power outages.

Essential city services, such as emergency responders and snow removal crews, will continue operating to manage the impact of the storm. Residents are encouraged to report urgent issues, such as downed power lines or road blockages, to the city’s emergency hotline at 555-123-4567.

All public meetings scheduled for January 6 will be rescheduled, with new dates to be announced later. Trash collection and other non-essential services will also be postponed until conditions improve.

City officials remind residents to take precautions, such as stocking up on essential supplies, checking on neighbors, and avoiding unnecessary travel. Updates will be provided via the city’s website and official social media channels.
