Kellen Moore Aims to Lead Saints ‘the Right Way,’ Feels ‘Fortunate’ to Have QB Derek Carr, RB Alvin Kamara

New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is eager to make an impact in his first season with the team, emphasizing leadership and a strong offensive identity. After parting ways with the Los Angeles Chargers, Moore is embracing the challenge of revitalizing the Saints’ offense and working with key playmakers like quarterback Derek Carr and running back Alvin Kamara.

“I want to lead the right way,” Moore said. “This is a talented group, and I feel fortunate to have guys like Derek and Alvin who bring experience, leadership, and playmaking ability.”

Moore, known for his creative offensive schemes, spent the last season with the Chargers and previously served as the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive coordinator. His offenses have consistently ranked among the league’s best, particularly in passing efficiency and red-zone execution. With the Saints, he aims to elevate a unit that showed inconsistency in 2023 under Pete Carmichael.

Carr, entering his second season with New Orleans, has shown flashes of excellence but struggled with injuries and inconsistency in his first year. Moore believes that with the right system and adjustments, Carr can thrive. “Derek is a smart, tough quarterback with a strong arm. I think we can put him in situations where he can be really successful,” Moore said.

Kamara remains one of the most dynamic dual-threat running backs in the league. While his production dipped in 2023, Moore is confident that the former All-Pro can return to his elite form. “Alvin is a special talent,” Moore noted. “He can impact the game in so many ways, whether it’s running between the tackles or catching passes out of the backfield. We’re going to find ways to get him involved and maximize his skill set.”

Beyond Carr and Kamara, Moore inherits a talented roster featuring standout receiver Chris Olave and an improving offensive line. His ability to integrate these pieces into a cohesive, high-powered attack will be crucial to the Saints’ success in 2024.

For Moore, leadership extends beyond Xs and Os. “It’s about building relationships, establishing trust, and making sure we’re all aligned,” he said. “I’m excited for this opportunity, and we’re going to do things the right way.”

With Moore at the helm of the offense, the Saints are hoping for a resurgence and a return to playoff contention in 2024.
