Interview:Dave Gahan gave what next for Depeche Mode

In a recent interview with NME, Depeche Mode’s frontman, Dave Gahan, provided insights into the band’s current status and future prospects. Following the release of their 2023 album Memento Mori and an extensive world tour, Gahan indicated that the band is not presently working on new material. He mentioned that neither he nor bandmate Martin Gore have been writing recently, stating, “I wouldn’t rule out us getting together at some point, but it’s not on the cards at this point.”

The passing of founding member Andy Fletcher in 2022 had a profound impact on the band. Memento Mori was their first album released as a duo, and the subsequent tour was both rewarding and exhausting for Gahan and Gore. Gahan reflected on the experience, noting the challenges they faced and the need for a period of recovery and introspection before considering new creative projects.

Despite the current hiatus in producing new music, Gahan and Gore maintain a supportive friendship. They recently spent time together in Italy, where music was notably absent from their agenda, reinforcing the notion that while they retain a close bond, their professional paths with Depeche Mode may not converge in the near future.

In the meantime, Gahan remains active in solo and collaborative projects. He is set to perform at a tribute show for the late Mark Lanegan at The Roundhouse in London, highlighting his ongoing involvement in music outside of Depeche Mode.

While the future of Depeche Mode remains uncertain, Gahan’s reflections suggest that the band is taking a well-deserved break. Fans may need to exercise patience, as new music is not currently a priority for the band. However, the enduring friendship between Gahan and Gore leaves the possibility open for future collaborations.
