The heartbroken family of a four-year-old girl killed in a West Midlands crash said she was ‘full of life and joy’. In a statement, little Mayar Yahia’s father, Babiker, said she leaves an ‘irreplaceable void in our lives’.
The youngster died after a horror crash as she walked along Upper Highgate Street in Birmingham on Sunday night (April 14). In the full statement, Mr Yahia thanked the community for their support following their tragic loss.
“She was an extraordinary young girl, only four years old, full of life and joy, and her absence leaves an irreplaceable void in our lives,” the statement read. “Among all, she held a special place in my heart.”
It goes on to say: “Words fail to capture the depth of our grief and the magnitude of this loss. However, we find solace and strength in the unwavering support and compassion shown by the police officers, our community, family, and friends.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you who have stood by our side, offering your love, prayers, and support during this incredibly difficult time.” Investigations into the collision, which left two women with leg injuries, are ongoing, say West Midlands Police. Police say they were hit by a silver Corsa car.
“It’s believed a grey Mercedes was in close proximity but we’re working tirelessly to piece together exactly what happened,” West Midlands Police said. Two men, aged 21 and 24, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
They have been released on bail while enquiries continue. Anyone with information can contact police via Live Chat on the police website, or by calling 101, and quote log 4120 of 14/4/24.
