Cody Fisher’s mother has spoken of her pain as the two men who murdered her son were given life sentences. Her son, who played for Stratford Town FC, was stabbed on the dancefloor at the Crane nightclub on on Boxing Day night 2022.
Remy Gordon and Kami Carpenter were both given life sentences at Birmingham Crown Court earlier today (April 8) for the 23-year-old’s murder. it came after an ‘insignificant’ encounter with one of his killers two nights earlier.
In her victim impact statement, which was read out in court, Cody’s mother Tracey said: “It is as though I too was stabbed straight through the heart. I have seen myself go from the happiest outgoing person, to fighting to get through each and every horrendous, never-ending day, in the abhorrent knowledge that my youngest son, my best friend, is never coming home to sleep in his bedroom, the room that I still cannot enter even to this day.”
Cody’s girlfriend, Jessica Chatwin, who was with him on the night, said: “I was supposed to spend the rest of my life with Cody. We had plans ready for the next year, places we were meant to go, and that has now been taken away from us for something so trivial, I believe to be nothing but jealously and pride.”

Remy Gordon, aged 23, of Cofton Park Drive, Rednal, was given a life sentence, and ordered to serve at least 26 years behind bars. Kami Carpenter aged 22, of Owens Croft, Kings Norton was also given a life sentence, and told to spend at least 25 years behind bars.
Both were found guilty of the semi-professional footballer’s murder. Gordon was also found guilty of affray.
Reegan Anderson aged 19, of Brookvale Park Road, Erdington, was cleared of murder, but found guilty of affray after being involved in the disorder that followed the murder. He was given a sentence of 18 months.
Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood, the senior investigating officer, previously said that, at the time, 2,000 people were in the nightclub and officers spent months watching the CCTV footage taken inside frame by frame, so that every person was identified.
It led to both Gordon and Carpenter both being arrested by police in London just two days later. Police seized their phones and Snapchat messages showed that after the altercation at PopWorld, Gordon had forwarded a picture of Mr Fisher to several friends including Carpenter and Anderson asking for help in identifying him and threatening to stab him. Further communication showed that Gordon and Carpenter discussed smuggling a knife into Crane nightclub and wearing masks to conceal their identities.
As well as the CCTV footage, Kami Carpenter’s DNA was found on a black fabric knife sheath that was recovered on Adderley Street, Digbeth by police. Testing led to the sheath matching the knife that killed Cody Fisher.
Speaking after the court case, DI Thurgood said: “The absolute tragedy of Cody’s death is just how avoidable it was. For a young man’s life to be snatched away, because he’d accidentally bumped into Remy Gordon two days earlier, is almost incomprehensible.
