Newcastle watch striker with £42m release clause

Another day, another new name has been linked with a potential move to Newcastle United. This time, it’s Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.

In his latest exclusive for HITC, Graeme Bailey reports that Toon scouts were in Portugal last weekend to watch the Swedish international in Lisbon’s 5-1 win over Estoril.

Despite previous links with defender Goncalo Inacio, it’s claimed club officials were in the stands to watch Gyokeres; the former Coventry striker who has been in sensational form since joining the Portuguese giants last summer.

The 25-year-old bagged a hat-trick of assists on the night, taking him to 30 goal involvements for the season in just 23 games. He’s scored 11 times in 15 league games and netted three in five Europa League appearances so far this term.

Bailey states that a £42m release clause exists in his contract, leaving several clubs watching his form closely. I can’t see us spending big on a striker this month, but the Swede – who play alongside Alexander Isak for his country – could well be one of several under consideration heading into the summer.
