French President Emmanuel Macron responded to circulating rumors that Céline Dion will sing at Friday’s Olympic opening ceremony, saying he would be “immensely happy” if she performed.

Dion is in Paris ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, sparking mounting speculation the singer will perform at the opening ceremony and make her long-awaited comeback after being diagnosed with stiff person syndrome in 2022. This rare neurological condition causes muscle spasms and affects her vocal cords.

“Apparently she has arrived in Paris, it’s great!” Macron told broadcast station Info France 2 in French on Tuesday.

When pressed by newscasters to confirm if Dion will perform, Macron offered a cryptic response, saying, “It would be great news because she’s a tremendous artist. I would be immensely happy if she could be at this opening ceremony like all our compatriots.”

“I will not reveal anything, what [opening ceremony director] Thomas Jolly with all his teams have prepared. There is also a surprise,” Macron added, with a visible smile.
