Nashville, TN – Jelly Roll, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, has opened up about his time in prison and how he used his steel bunk as an instrument to write songs. In an exclusive interview on SiriusXM’s Howard 101, Jelly Roll shared his inspiring story of perseverance and creativity behind bars.

_USING HIS STEEL BUNK AS AN INSTRUMENT_

Jelly Roll explained that during his time in prison, he didn’t have access to traditional instruments. However, he found a way to create music using his steel bunk. “I would tap on the steel bunk and use it as a drum,” he said. “I would also use the bunk to create percussion sounds and experiment with different rhythms.”

_WRITING SONGS BEHIND BARS_

Jelly Roll wrote many songs while in prison, including some of the tracks that would eventually make it onto his debut album. “Writing songs in prison was a way for me to escape and express myself,” he said. “It was a way for me to process my emotions and tell my story.”

Jelly Roll’s music eventually caught the attention of industry insiders, and he was offered a record deal. His debut album was a critical and commercial success, earning him a Grammy nomination. “I’m grateful for a second chance,” Jelly Roll said. “I’m grateful to have the opportunity to share my music with the world.”
