In an exclusive interview with the media, iconic Swedish pop group ABBA made an exciting announcement that has left fans buzzing worldwide: they are set to release new music in 2025. This news comes after years of speculation and anticipation following their last studio album, The Visitors, released in 1981. The legendary quartet, consisting of Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, sat down for a candid conversation to discuss what fans can expect from the upcoming release.
When asked about the decision to return to the studio, Björn Ulvaeus shared, “It feels surreal to be here again, talking about new music after all these years. We’ve always had a special bond, and the idea of recording together again was something that just felt right. The passion for music never really left us.”
Agnetha Fältskog reflected on how technology has evolved since their last album, which may have played a part in their decision to record new music. “We were always about pushing boundaries in our time, and now, with the advancements in music production, we are excited to explore new soundscapes,” Agnetha said. “It’s a different era, but the magic of ABBA still feels alive.”
The group hinted that the new songs will retain their signature sound but will also incorporate fresh influences from today’s music scene. “We aren’t trying to reinvent ourselves; we want to stay true to the ABBA spirit,” Benny Andersson added. “But, of course, we are always evolving, and the new songs will reflect our growth and what we’ve experienced over the years.”
ABBA also touched on their long-awaited return to the stage in the form of their virtual concert experience, ABBA Voyage, which began in 2022. “The Voyage project gave us a sense of being on stage again without the pressure of touring,” Anni-Frid Lyngstad explained. “It allowed us to reconnect with the audience in a way we hadn’t in decades. And now, new music feels like the natural next step.”
The group reassured fans that while they are thrilled about the new songs, they are also dedicated to ensuring their legacy endures. “We’re not here to chase the past,” Benny said. “We’ve been through so much, and we just want to give our fans something special, something that resonates today.”
As ABBA gears up for their 2025 musical return, the world eagerly awaits what promises to be another unforgettable chapter in their illustrious career.
