Unai Emery reveals Morgan Rogers where he will play

Morgan Rogers will be in the Aston Villa squad to face Sheffield United on Saturday and Unai Emery believes the 21-year-old will be able to adapt quickly following his deadline day move from Middlesbrough.

Rogers was Emery’s priority transfer target last month and after three failed bids, Villa finally reached an agreement with Boro last Tuesday to sign him. He returns to the West Midlands – having left West Brom for Man City in 2019 – with five years of experiences under his belt.

Following loan spells at Lincoln, Bournemouth and Blackpool, Rogers left City for Boro last summer, but courted interest from Villa just months into his four-year deal at the Riverside. Rogers never made a Premier League appearance under Pep Guardiola, but he could make his top-flight debut at Bramall Lane as Villa look to return to winning ways after a 3-1 home defeat against Newcastle earlier this week.

“Morgan is a young player, a talented player, who is from here,” Emery said. “We were following him, and he played against us with Middlesbrough.

“We analysed him and I think for a lot of things – he’s young, his potential is big, he’s from Birmingham. He is ready to play. He was playing a lot of matches for Middlesbrough and producing consistently good performances.

“Now he has to adapt quickly to our ideas, our style and our rules. But he is intelligent and he is a good player so I think he is going to be quick to adapt.
