Aston Villa injury latest update v Man Utd

Aston Villa travel to face Manchester United on boxing day as they look to get back to winning ways. Let’s take a look and see if there are any injury concerns for Unai Emery to contend with.

It was a day to forget for Aston Villa last time out as they dropped points at home for the first time since February. Despite having multiple penalty shouts turned down and a goal chalked off, Villa didn’t create enough chances on the night.

Sheffield United took the lead late on as Cameron Archer came back to bite his former club. His goal was poorly defended an ended up costing the Villans. A point was rescued as Nicolo Zaniolo grabbed his first Premier League goal since his move from Galatasaray.

Matty Cash received his fifth yellow card of the season and as a result, will miss out against Manchester United. Other than Boubacar Kamara, this is the Villans’ only suspension problem going into the Boxing Day clash.

With that being said, let’s take a look at any injury worries that Unai Emery might have to contend with at Old Trafford.

Aston Villa injury update vs Manchester United

It appears as though there are no fresh concerns for the Villans to be concerned with. Given the short turnover between the Blades’ game, it won’t come as a surprise.

With that being said, some issues had been carried into that game and had left the Villans missing some key names.

One of those was Pau Torres who had played every game prior to this injury. His importance on the starting XI is huge which is great given how short a period he has been with the club.

Discussing the injury with Birmingham World, Emery has opened up about the Spanish defender and his ailment. On that, he said: “It’s a small injury. Every day coming is important to how he is improving; I don’t know if he will be available for Man United, but he could be.”

It is clear to see that the injury could see him out for a while but also be one that sees him return against the Red Devils. Clement Lenglet was good against the Blades with a 6.9 SofaScore on his Premier League debut. With that being said, getting Torres back from injury will be paramount to any success Villa have.

Another man who missed out against Sheffield United was Youri Tielemans, whose creativity was certainly missed. It appears he may be out for many months.

On that, Emery said: “Youri, we are thinking maybe not more than two weeks, but he is now working alone and recovering his injury in his calf.”

Those two as well as Bertrand Traore are the only injury issues for Villa to contend with and as a result, there is a strong squad available.
