Lucas Paqueta braced for betting investigation outcome

The FA investigation into West Ham star Lucas Paqueta’s potential betting breaches is set to conclude

West Ham are set to discover the verdict of Paqueta’s betting breaches soon with the investigation now close to being completed, sources have told Football Insider.

The Hammers were informed in August that their 26-year-old star was being investigated for alleged betting breaches.

The Football Association were contacted by Football Insider on Thursday and issued no comment on the timeline of the investigation but confirmed that it is still ongoing.

Well-placed source have told Football Insider that the probe is coming to a close, with West Ham and the player braced for the outcome.

Paqueta’s betting allegations arrived at the height of the summer transfer window and caused his move to champions Manchester City to collapse even though he has not been charged by the FA and has continued to play for West Ham this season.

As revealed by Football Insider in August, City submitted a bid of £80million to sign the Brazil international before his betting investigation put an end to their pursuit.

Following the collapse, Paqueta stayed put in London and has continued to be arguably the outstanding player at the London Stadium with five goals and six assists this season.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Paqueta’s investigation started after the club’s sponsor Betway reported suspicious betting activity.

Betway’s alert system was triggered after a series of bets were received for Paqueta to be booked during West Ham’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa in March.

Paqueta granted the FA access to his phone in October – months after the investigation had started.
