GOOD NEWS: £100,000-a-week Tottenham player just made Premier League history…

£100,000-a-week Tottenham player just made Premier League history

Micky van de Ven has been quite the signing for Tottenham ever since arriving from VfL Wolfsburg in August.

The Netherlands international has particularly caught the eye with his blistering speed – something that has now seen the Dutchman etch his name into Premier League history.

So, what Premier League record has Micky van de Ven broken at Tottenham? Let’s take a look…

Van de Ven makes Premier League history

Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven sets all-time Premier League record

Well, the 22-year-old will surely be delighted with this achievement.

Van de Ven actually became the quickest footballer in Premier League history during the recent 3-2 win over Brentford on Wednesday 31st January.

The Tottenham No.37 was clocked running at a speed of 37.38 km/h (23.23 mph) – as confirmed on the Premier League’s official website – which is a record since data for that metric was collected.

Amazingly, Van de Ven ran just below the pace of Usain Bolt when the Jamaican speedster set the current 100m world record back in 2009, while sprinting at a speed of 37.58 km/h (23.35mph).

Remarkable stuff – to say the least.

No wonder Ange Postecoglou feels so comfortable playing a high line at Tottenham, safe in the knowledge that Van de Ven – who Jermaine Jenas recently praised – can pretty much catch up with anybody in the Premier League.

The £100,000-a-week defender is a real asset in that regard, and the £34m spent on his signature is now starting to look like a real bargain for Spurs.

Tottenham struck gold with Van de Ven

In our view, Tottenham have a potentially elite central defender on their hands – Van de Ven could easily become the outright best in his position very soon.

The man from Wormer is already worth at least double what Tottenham paid for him, and once he gets a full Premier League campaign under his belt, there is no reason why he cannot command Virgil van Dijk levels of respect across the football world.

Hopefully, Tottenham can keep Van de Ven fit after his recent hamstring problems, as Postecoglou has a serious talent on his hands.
