Guardiola told he to sell Erling Haaland and  sign 24-year-old striker

Giovanni Galli says if he was Pep Guardiola, he would be willing to let Erling Haaland leave Manchester City to sign Dusan Vlahovic.

Before Haaland and Vlahovic’s moves to Manchester City and Juventus respectively, the pair were widely hailed as the two best young strikers in the world.

While the Norwegian goalscorer was demolishing the Bundesliga during his spell at Borussia Dortmund, the Serbian international was doing the same in Serie A at Fiorentina.

However, ever since Erling Haaland has joined Manchester City and Dusan Vlahovic has signed for Juventus, their fates could not have been any more different.

While the former has won the treble and broken the Premier League’s all-time goalscoring record for a single season, Vlahovic has not been able to replicate his brilliance from his spell at Fiorentina.

Even so, Giovanni Galli believes that if he was Pep Guardiola, he would let Erling Haaland depart Manchester City to sign Dusan Vlahovic.

“Maybe it may seem like a provocation to you, but for me, it’s not that much of a provocation: if I were [Pep] Guardiola and they told me, ‘You would make the exchange between [Dusan] Vlahovic and [Erling] Haaland’, I would do it easily. Dusan has nothing to envy the Norwegian“, he told Tuttosport.

Giovanni Galli claims Erling Haaland has the advantage of playing for Pep Guardiola and Co., who generate much more goalscoring opportunities for him than is the case for Dusan Vlahovic at Juventus.

“At Juve [Juventus], he must take advantage of the few opportunities that come his way because the Bianconeri are not a team that doesn’t grind out play like City who have 10 chances per game. Yet Vlahovic already has 12 goals despite everything. I’d like to see him in a more attacking team. If he were at Manchester City, he would also score 50 goals a season like Haaland. I’m sure”.

As excellent of a season as Dusan Vlahovic is having, Erling Haaland is arguably the best striker in the world, which makes the suggestion from Giovanni Galli to Pep Guardiola a bizarre one, in our view.

The 24-year-old (12 Serie A goals) has never reached Haaland’s (14 Premier League goals) level from last season in his career, who has managed to outscore him by two goals in the league even this campaign, despite not starting in his last six games and playing in a much superior division.

While one could argue that Dusan Vlahovic is more technically well-rounded than the Leeds-born frontman, his movement, positioning, finishing and athleticism still need plenty of improvement to reach the latter’s standards.

Whether it is recency bias or just a preference for the Juventus number nine as a player, it is hard to understand Giovanni Galli’s rationale.
