DEADLINE:  West Ham United make decision on Said Benrahma

Said Benrahma has been granted permission to fly out and complete his move to Lyon in the only likely piece of West Ham transfer business on Deadline Day, according to Ryan Taylor.

The Mirror journalist shared via his personal Twitter account on Thursday (1 February) that Benrahma’s switch to the Ligue 1 club now comes down to personal terms being agreed.

Taylor adds that “lots can change”, but this will be the only piece of incoming or outgoing activity at London Stadium prior to the 11pm deadline as things stand.

Bringing in Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City was great business from United, but supporters have every right to feel slightly underwhelmed.

That may sound a little greedy – the current squad is stacked full of talent, after all – but plenty of attacking players have been linked over the past month and none have arrived.

Offloading Benrahma for a tiny fee without replacing him seems like a step backwards. The Algerian is hardly a key man under David Moyes, but it means one less option for the Scotsman to choose from.

Ibrahim Osman and Jota are two names that get West Ham fans excited, but the latter certainly will not be joining and the former also now seems unlikely to make the switch.

The Irons still have a squad capable of challenging for more European glory and also competing for a top-six finish in the Premier League, but Moyes would no doubt have liked one more signing. With Benrahma exiting, though, the attack is now weaker than it was before.
