Unbelievable Twist Former Panthers OC Thomas Brown joining Chicago Bears as pass game coordinator

Former Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Thomas Brown is joining the Chicago Bears as their passing game coordinator, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Brown, 37, will serve under head coach Matt Eberflus and be reunited with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron, whom he worked with in Los Angeles when the two were assistants on the Rams’ coaching staff. Brown spent just the 2023 season in Carolina, calling plays for the Panthers after the organization parted ways with head coach Frank Reich. Carolina finished last in yards per game (265.3) and points per game (13.9).

Prior to joining the Panthers, he spent three years under Rams head coach Sean McVay. Before entering the NFL ranks, Brown had stops at Georgia, Chattanooga, Marshall, Wisconsin, Miami and South Carolina at the collegiate level.

Bears add Thomas Brown to new-look coaching staff

He figures to have a golden shot at rehabilitating his career after a disappointing tenure in Carolina, with Chicago holding the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Bears have a decision to wrestle with over the next few months, as USC quarterback Caleb Wiliams owns the title as the best player available on the board.

But with Justin Fields still on the roster and coming off his best season as a passer to date, it is no guarantee that the Bears take Williams at No. 1. Perhaps, the Bears put the pick on the market for the second consecutive year and roll with Fields for a fourth season. Whatever the case, Brown will have a role in crafting Chicago’s new-look passing game alongside Waldron.
