Nottingham Forest will need to sell Morgan Gibbs-White to avoid a financial ‘crisis’ if they are relegated this season.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about Forest’s financial health if they are demoted.
Forest were charged with breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules this month and could face a points deduction if found guilty.
A points deduction would plunge Forest into a battle for survival with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side currently sitting just four points clear of the bottom three.
Football Insider revealed on Thursday (25 January) that Forest would face a wage bill ‘crisis’ if they were relegated this season.
That is because many of Forest’s first-team squad reportedly do not have relegation clauses inserted into their contracts.
Maguire believes Morgan Gibbs-White is a ‘sellable asset’ that could help Forest avoid a crisis should they suffer relegation this season.
“I think Forest will be okay because they’ve got a very sellable asset in Morgan Gibbs-White,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“We saw at both Southampton and Leicester that big names were sold following relegation- Ward-Prowse, Livramento, Harvey Barnes, James Maddison and so on.
“The clubs who are being relegated often have commodities, and that’s how footballers are viewed in the market.
“That’s the norm for Forest, except I think more of the focus will be on players leaving than players joining.
“But I don’t see it being a crisis as [Evangelos] Marinakis is very wealthy and is in a position to plug the gap.“
