Former FSU Football Quarterback Meets With Steelers, Reveals Season-Ending Injury

The former Seminole met with at least one team at the Shrine Bowl and provided an update on his recovery from injury.Florida State took a huge hit this past season when Jordan Travis suffered a season-ending leg injury in the team’s 11th game. While the Seminoles defeated Florida and Louisville — which saw them capture an ACC Championship win — the team wasn’t the same without its star quarterback.

The injury hasn’t deterred Travis from pursuing his goal of playing professional football, and he’s currently in Frisco, TX, for the Shrine Bowl. While in Frisco, Travis spoke with Steelers Depot, where he confirmed that he met with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Travis to the Steelers would be a fun opportunity. The Steelers lack certainty at the position as former first-round pick Kenny Pickett healed from an ankle injury, yet remained out of the starting lineup. Veteran backup Mason Rudolph closed out the season for the team.

Having the potential to go battle for a starting quarterback job early in his pro career would be valuable for Travis.

Travis is coming off a brutal injury, but that hasn’t held him back from doing as much as possible in the draft process. He has received an invite to the NFL Draft Combine and plans to interview, go through meetings, and have health evaluations.

That’s the goal, in mid-April,” Travis told Steelers Depot. “Get my feet moving a little. I won’t be able to run, probably. I just want to be smart but at the same time show these teams I’m gonna be good.”

Travis is a dual-threat quarterback with a wealth of experience at the college level. He played one season with Louisville before spending five seasons in Tallahassee with the Seminoles, where he saw consistent improvement before eventually becoming a star in the sport.

Having helped lead a program turnaround for Florida State, Travis has shown his ability to put together big-time drives and is capable of winning big games. He’s suited for the NFL and has the legs to extend plays and make winning plays.

It’ll be interesting to see where Travis is drafted given the nature and timing of his injury and how the NFL pre-draft process works.
