Report: Knicks Interested In Trading For Wizards’ big man

According to NBA insider Ian Begley of SNY, the New York Knicks are interested in trading for Washington Wizards big man Daniel Gafford.

The Wizards are interested in acquiring Quentin Grimes from the Knicks, so it’s possible the two teams could make a trade.

“Washington’s interest in Grimes is noteworthy for several reasons,” Begley wrote. “One of them? The Knicks have Wizards big man Daniel Gafford on their radar, sources confirm.”

The Knicks already made one big trade this season, sending RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley to the Toronto Raptors for OG Anunoby, Malachi Flynn and Precious Achiuwa. It will be interesting to see if Leon Rose decides to make another move.

Gafford is averaging 10.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.0 steals and 2.1 blocks this season while shooting 69.7% from the field and 71.8% from the free-throw line. He’s making $12.4 million.

The Knicks are 29-17 on the season. They are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings. Meanwhile, the Wizards are 8-37. They have the second-worst record in the East.

Gafford, 25, has career averages of 8.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.5 steals and 1.4 blocks with the Chicago Bulls and Wizards. He’s seventh in the NBA this season in blocks per game and eighth in total blocks.

The Bulls drafted Gafford with the 38th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Arkansas. Chicago traded Gafford to Washington in March 2021.
