Hammers could move for a clinical Portuguese winger

It at one point looked almost certain that West Ham were going to sign Ibrahim Osman in the coming days. The Ghanaian wonder-kid has been linked with a move to East London the whole transfer window but it now seems like the move is completely off. A complicated agent situation alongside doubt from one advisor in the club means that the Hammers may now have to pursue other targets.

Players like Jack Clarke, Jonathan Rowe and Jota have all been discussed internally, but Portuguese news outlet O Jogo have reported that they could make a move for Sporting Lisbon’s Pedro Gonçalves instead. The versatile forward can play almost anywhere in the attack but is at his best on the left wing or as an attacking midfielder. In the last 4 seasons for Lisbon he has scored an astonishing 53 league goals and assisted a further 29 in that time.

Obviously, with such an impeccable record it is hard to imagine that the 25 year old will come cheap, with the Portuguese side expected to demand upwards of €50 million, which could go as high as his €80 million release clause. Such a high fee would most likely be out of the Hammers budget, even if they were to sell both Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma this month.

If our Irons can somehow find the money to buy him without breaking FFP then he would be an absolutely incredible addition to the side. He may not be the fastest player going, but his finishing, passing and dribbling all make up for that and then some.

Bringing in someone of his quality would send a message to the rest of the Premier League that we want to be fighting at the very top for a long time to come. Let us hope that there is some substance to these rumours, as he would be the perfect addition to complete our attack.
