Report reveals why Washington, Seattle have not hired head coaches yet

The Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders still have not decided on new head coaches after conducting several interviews, but it appears both teams are dragging out the process for a reason.

The Seahawks and Commanders are waiting to interview several head coach candidates whose teams are playing in the NFC and AFC Championship Games on Sunday, aZccording to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is widely believed to be at the top of Washington’s list. Schefter says the Commanders also want to hold second interviews with Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Baltimore Ravens assistants Mike Macdonald and Anthony Weaver. Schefter reports that those other assistant coaches — in addition to Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn — remain “very much in play” even with Washington having a high interest in Johnson.

The Seahawks also interviewed Johnson and want to speak with him again. Quinn, who was once an assistant in Seattle, has also been linked to his former team. If the Seahawks want to interview Macdonald, NFL rules would require them to wait until Baltimore’s season ends since they have not conducted a first interview with him yet.

There is one high-profile candidate who still does not have a job, but the Commanders and Seahawks do not appear to have interest. At least one of the teams will likely hire a coach who is still currently working.
