Any team looking to trade for Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Dylan Cease should be prepared to pay a lofty price.
According to The New York Post’s Jon Heyman, one MLB GM said that the White Sox’s asking price for the righty is “the sun and the moon,” and it seems Chicago is unlikely to part with Cease.
Last year in his fifth season in the MLB, Cease notched 214 strikeouts in 177 innings pitched, posting a 7-9 record. Chicago has already named Cease the opening-day starter, so it seems he will be remaining with the White Sox despite trade rumors.
Cease had a relatively disappointing 2023 with fewer strikeouts and a higher ERA and WAR than he had in the 2022 campaign. He also gave up a career-high 172 hits and a career-high 98 runs while posting the second-worst winning percentage of his career.
Still, the White Sox seem committed to Cease as they look to snap a two-year postseason draught next year. Cease will be looking for a better year in 2024 to help them reach that goal.
Cease has spent his offseason dealing with trade rumors surrounding him, with the White Sox reportedly engaging with the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles about potential trades, but manager Pedro Grifol said he is handling them well.
Now being named the opening-day starter, Cease gets a little peace of mind that he will be with Chicago this season.
