NEWS JUST IN: Giants linked to pair of LSU Tigers in latest mock drafts

According to the latest mock drafts, the New York Giants are bound for the Bayou in the 2024 NFL Draft, but who they’ll take is up for debate.

New York gave quarterback Daniel Jones a four-year, $160M contract in the offseason. In return, he gave them three touchdowns and six interceptions before tearing his ACL against the Raiders in Week 9. The Giants have an out-clause after the 2024 season, which is why Luke Easterling of Sports Illustrated thinks they’ll take Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels with the No. 6 pick.

The LSU quarterback finished 2023 with 3,812 yards passing, 1,134 yards rushing and 40 touchdowns while leading the Tigers to a 9-3 record. In his final three games, Daniels threw for 1,020 yards with 13 touchdowns and no interceptions.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper has the 23-year-old quarterback ranked fourth overall on his big board and reminds potential suitors that Daniels led the country in total QBR (95.7) while completing 72.2% of his passes with an average of 11.7 yards per attempt. If Daniels is on the board at No. 6, the Giants almost have to take him. But another NFL insider thinks he’ll be gone, allowing New York to draft one of his favorite targets.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah has the New England Patriots taking Daniels third overall in the upcoming draft and the Giants grabbing wide receiver Malik Nabers.

LSU’s leading receiver had 186 catches for 2,690 yards and 21 touchdowns in three years as a Tiger. He earned first-team All-SEC honors in 2023 with 14 touchdowns while averaging 17.6 yards per catch. Pro Football Focus ranks Nabers as the second-best receiver in the draft and the fourth-best prospect overall.

The Giants haven’t drafted a first-round wide receiver since 2021 when they took Florida’s Kadarius Toney 20th overall. If Jeremiah is right and all the top quarterbacks are gone before the Giants pick, plugging Nabers into the NFL’s 31st-ranked defense isn’t a bad idea.
