Back on the court after his suspension, Draymond Green didn’t hold back his thoughts on the Golden State Warriors’ recent play. Despite his comeback, the Warriors faced a tough 116-107 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies . Green’s sharp remarks after the game echoed the team’s ongoing issues and their faltering defensive efforts.
With almost their full roster, the Warriors still fell short against an injury-hit Memphis team. Green, adding 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, highlighted the team’s defensive flaws. He pointed out the lack of personal accountability in defense of each player on his team. According to him, the Warriors’ defense has grown soft, and that is one of the prime reasons for the team’s struggles.
Draymond Green had this to say post-game about the Golden State Warriors’ slump:
You just gotta have pride in yourself as a man; that I’m not gonna let my guy score. Close outs were too soft, our rotations were too slow. We can’t check… We can’t guard nobody. Until we guard, we lose.
The Warriors’ struggles on defense were glaring as they let Memphis hit 20 out of 54 three-point shots and gave away 40 free throw chances. This persistent lack of defensive sharpness has been a key factor in their disappointing season so far.
Stephen Curry put up 26 points and eight assists for the Warriors, yet it wasn’t enough to make up for the team’s defensive errors and the surprising performance of Memphis’s bench, with GG Jackson scoring 23 points.
Warriors lose yet again, now to the Memphis Grizzlies
In an unexpected outcome, the Memphis Grizzlies, even without key players like Ja Morant and Desmond Bane, clinched a 116-107 victory over a full-strength Golden State Warriors. With this loss, the Warriors now have a dismal 18-22 record, barely holding on to a play-in spot.
The defensive side of the game was a sore spot for the Warriors. Memphis went on a 10-1 run in the fourth quarter to clinch a 12-point lead with just four minutes left on the clock. The Warriors also made 19 turnovers, which Memphis turned into 30 points.
Looking ahead, Golden State must tackle their defensive challenges and find better ways to back up Curry. Coach Steve Kerr stressed the need for a more thoughtful, mistake-free approach, suggesting the team should cut down on turnovers and fouls to regain their competitive form.
