Leeds have to be in the race for ‘fantastic’ striker

The race is hotting up for Plymouth Argyle’s in-demand attacker Morgan Whittaker with a possible move on the cards this month – and Leeds United have to be interested in signing the talented star.

Whittaker, 21, spent the first half of last season on loan at Plymouth in League One – and had a hand in 16 goals in 31 games. He returned to Swansea in January, but had done enough to help Plymouth go up.

In the summer, Plymouth moved to sign him permanently from Swansea and it has proven to be a move that has left egg on the face for the Welsh side. He has sparkled for Plymouth, one of the League’s best.

Often playing from the right, but able to play up top and on the left too, Whittaker has had a hand in a huge 21 goals already – scoring 15 of his own, and creating six more. Six in his last six league games.

The Mail’s Confidential page claim that top-tier and Championship clubs are tracking Whittaker – such as Serie A side Atalanta. The Italians have identified England’s second division as a scouting pool.

Birmingham’s Jordan James is also a target. Now, Whittaker – described as “fantastic” by then-manager Russell Martin – is attracting interest and Leeds simply have to be in the mix for his signature right now.

Even if, Leeds do not move this month – he has to be a target come the end of the season, whether we are in the Championship, or the Premier League. His stats are quite remarkable and at 21, he is a talent.

Come the summer, Willy Gnonto is likely to be on his way given he is struggling to play at the moment. Jaidon Anthony is only on loan. Bringing Whittaker in not only replaces them, but adds depth up top.

He would be a sensational signing and if Championship clubs want to land Whittaker then Leeds need to be one of those. It is unclear how much Plymouth would charge for their star player at this moment.
