INTERESTING: Red Sox Still Seen As ‘Best Fit’ For Superstar Despite Speculation

Could the Boston Red Sox get a big deal done this offseason?

Boston already has signed one-time All-Star Lucas Giolito but still has holes in the starting rotation. The Red Sox entered the offseason needing to sign two starters but that was before trading away Chris Sale.

Giolito fills a need for Boston, but the club likely still needs two more pitchers. The Red Sox have been linked in some way to each available pitcher. Spring Training is quickly approaching, though, and options are running out for Boston.

One player who has been linked to the Red Sox on numerous occasions and still is available is the 2023 National League Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell. It’s unclear where he will land, but Boston still is seen as one of the “best fits,” according to The Athletic’s Tim Britton and Aaron Gleeman.

“Best fits: (Boston Red Sox), (Chicago Cubs), (New York Yankees), (San Francisco Giants),” Britton and Gleeman said. “Few pitchers have hits free agency coming off as dominant a stretch as Snell put together in his walk year: From the end of May on, he compiled a 1.20 ERA over 23 starts, blanking the opposition in 11 of those outings (and only twice allowing more than two runs).”

Snell is one of the best pitchers in baseball and landing him would go a long way for Boston. It’s unclear how much the Red Sox are willing to spend, but a signing certainly could make sense. Boston needs to add a frontline starter and certainly should consider Snell.
