Newcastle launch bid for Swedish midfielder

According to the Swedish media, Newcastle United have launched a bid to sign 17-year-old sensation Lucas Bergvall.

The midfielder is believed to be one of the top young talents in Sweden. He’s already scored once in three appearances for Sweden’s U21s and currently plays for Djurgården

The report claims that Newcastle, Inter Milan, Eintracht Frankfurt and Barcelona have all come forward with offers for Bergvall, stating that bids and contract proposals have been submitted.

The teenager turns 18 next month and is expected to seal a move to one of Europe’s top leagues. The Swedish press claim that Barca have offered £5m, while Frankfurt’s bid is believed to be in excess of £7m.

There’s no figures mentioned when it comes to Newcastle’s offer, but it seems we’ll face serious competition from Barcelona after Djurgården’s sporting director Bosse Andersson previously confirmed talks with the La Liga giants.

Bergvall made his senior debut at 15-years-old and has scored twice in 25 appearances in the Allsvenskan. Should he arrive on Tyneside, it would show our continued attempts to attract some of the worlds best young players to St James’ Park. Here’s him in action:
