Sources: Leeds and hit by transfer blow

Leeds United, Southampton, Wolves and Sheffield United hit by transfer blow, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that the Liverpool ace has reached a full agreement with the Tigers and he is scheduled for a medical on Tuesday (9 January) ahead of completing a loan for the remainder of the campaign.

Liam Rosenior’s side are set to secure the 21-year-old’s services after they impressed Liverpool chiefs with their development of Tyler Morton, who is also on loan from the Reds and has flourished at the MKM Stadium.

There is no obligation for Hull City to buy Carvalho, with Liverpool still hopeful he can emerge as a first-team regular at Anfield in the future.

Leeds United, Southampton, Wolves and Sheffield United also submitted loan offers for the attacking midfielder but have lost out to the less glamorous Championship side.

Carvalho was loaned out to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig last summer but had his move cut short as he failed to impress in just nine appearances in the league.

Across 12 outings in all competitions in Germany, he made just two starts and mustered a total of 360 minutes.

Liverpool are hopeful that he can revive his season with a move to the second-tier and get the match minutes he badly needs to develop.

He moved to Anfield from Fulham in the summer of 2022 on a five-year deal for a reported £5million, but has made just 21 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side since and most of those were as a substitution.

Leeds remain hopeful of bringing in further additions in January despite missing out on Carvalho, and as revealed by Football Insider (9 January), they are plotting multiple loan signings before the end of the month.

Sources also told Football Insider (5 January) that Southampton are in a race with Watford and Cardiff City to sign recently recalled Aston Villa ace Lamare Bogarde on loan for the remainder of the season.
