Newcastle Defender Extends His Contract Until 2025: Good Move..

Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar has extended his contract until 2025 after establishing himself as a reliable performer at St. James’ Park recently.

Schar has enjoyed a solid season at St. James’ Park thus far after he put in a series of impressive displays at the centre of Newcastle’s backline. The 32-year-old has found the back of the net once and earned one assist in 28 matches for the Magpies during this campaign in all competitions.

The Swiss sensation has been a dominant presence on the defensive third of the pitch based on his average of 1.3 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 3.7 clearances per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from inside his half after making 85.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored). At 32, the Swiss sensation has still got a few good seasons left in him to operate at a high level. Hence, it seems like a good move for both the player and Newcastle to extend their time together for at least another year.

Schar loves a tackle and can read the danger well to make some timely interceptions for his team. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and can even play his way out from the back

The Swiss talent can use his powerful 1.86m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. At the moment, Schar is one of the first names in Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe’s teamsheet.

The veteran centre-back has what it takes to help the Magpies secure a European spot in the Premier League over the next couple of years. Thus, it is only logical for the Tyneside club to extend Schar’s contract until the end of next season.
