Postecoglou has changed £25m player’s mind, he wants to move

Timo Werner was reportedly unsure about a Premier League return but Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has changed his mind.

Tottenham are closing in on the signing of the RB Leipzig striker as he’s set to make the switch to North London on a six-month loan deal.

Indeed, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Spurs will also have the option to buy the forward over the summer.

It’s fair to say that Timo Werner endured a tough spell in England last time out, with his move to Chelsea not quite going to plan.

The 27-year-old did scoop three trophies during his time at Stamford Bridge, including a Champions League title.

He also netted 23 times and provided 21 assists in 89 appearances for the Blues. But Werner was often criticised for a lack of cutting-edge in front of goal.

And as he closes in on a move to Tottenham, SportsLens claims that Werner was ‘sceptical’ over a return to the Premier League.

Postecoglou changed Werner’s mind on Premier League return

The outlet claims that Werner was unsure about a move to England due to his tough spell at Chelsea.

But the German forward is set to sign for Spurs now and could even be involved in the game at Manchester United on Sunday.

It’s noted that Werner is said to be a ‘fan’ of London but it was the prospect of linking up with Ange Postecoglou that excited him.

It’s easy to understand why Werner had his doubts over a return to England after how his last spell at Chelsea ended.

After two years in west London, the Germany international was sold back to RB Leipzig for a fee worth around £25 million.

Werner boasts an excellent goalscoring record in Germany, having netted 113 goals in 213 games for Leipzig.

He’s struggled for minutes this term though, having made just eight Bundesliga appearances.

But this feels like an astute signing from Tottenham, especially with Heung-Min Son currently on international duty at the Asian Cup.

Postecoglou has proven to be a key driving force in terms of Spurs’ recruitment of late and it should offer fans some encouragement that he wanted to sign Werner.
